Harmanpreet Kaur and the other members of the Indian team won the hearts of cricket enthusiasts with a heartwarming gesture during the third and final ODI in the multi-format series against Australia. The Women in Blue gave a guard of honour to Alyssa Healy, who is making her final ODI appearance before retirement.

Healy didn’t play the T20 leg of the series, as she gave the young Australian players a chance to prepare for the T20 World Cup, which begins later in the year. She will bid adieu to the sport after playing the day-night Test against India at the Optus Stadium in Perth from March 6 to March 9.

Sunday, March 1, was a special moment for Healy, as she was playing the final ODI in her illustrious career. After India won the toss and opted to bowl first, Healy walked out to open alongside Phoebe Litchfield. The Indian team gathered to give the Australian captain a guard of honour to acknowledge her contributions not just to Australian cricket but to the sport in general.

Healy celebrated the emotional occasion by smashing a belligerent century on Sunday. She reached the three-figure mark in just 79 balls. The 35-year-old got to 150 off just 95 deliveries as the Indian bowlers were looking hapless against her onslaught. It seemed like Healy would smash a double century, but Sneh Rana ended her knock with a high full toss in the 37th over, which the batter missed while playing a reverse sweep and got bowled.

Healy’s knock ended at a score of 158 from 98 balls. The experienced campaigner hit 27 fours and two sixes during her knock. Australia won the first two ODIs, and after Healy’s remarkable century on Sunday, the Women in Yellow would look to inflict a whitewash and give a fitting farewell gift to the Gold Coast-born.
