India defeated Oman by 21 runs in their final Group A clash of the Asia Cup 2025 at Abu Dhabi on Thursday, September 19. A contest was expected to be one-sided, but Oman put up a strong performance in the second innings. However, India’s experience ensured they finished the league stage with three wins and three losses.

Opting to bat first, India experimented with their line-up in this dead rubber, resting Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy while handing opportunities to Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh. The game began with Abhishek Sharma smashing 38 off just 15 balls with five fours and two sixes. His approach gave India a flying start, as 60 runs came in the power play. He was eventually dismissed by Jiten Ramanandi.

Sanju Samson anchored the innings with a 56 off 45 deliveries. Despite starting slowly, Samson displayed his brilliance against Oman’s spinners. However, his dismissal in the 18th over stalled the team’s push for a big finish.

Cameos from Axar Patel (26 off 13) and Tilak Varma (29 off 18) ensured the Men in Blue reached 188/8. Oman’s bowlers, including Shah Faisal (2/23), Jiten Ramanandi (2/33), and veteran Aamir Kaleem (2/31), shared six wickets.

Chasing 189, Oman looked in the game, thanks to their opening stand of 56 between captain Jatinder Singh (32 off 33) and Aamir Kaleem. Kaleem then partnered with Hammad Mirza. Kaleem’s 64 off 46 balls, laced with seven fours and two sixes, kept Oman in the contest, while Mirza contributed with 51 off 33. However, once Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Kaleem and Hardik Pandya removed Mirza, the defending champions bounced back in the game. Oman eventually closed at 167/4 in 20 overs, falling short by 21 runs.
