India wrapped up their three-match home ODI series against West Indies with a 2-1 victory, with matches played in Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati and New Chandigarh on September 27, September 30 and October 3, respectively. The 15-man squad was captained by Shubman Gill, with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain.
Several players were absent from the West Indies ODI squad due to a clash with the Asian Games. With those players expected to return for the upcoming five-match ODI series in New Zealand, some members of the current squad could find themselves on the outside looking in.
1. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja had not been part of India’s ODI squad for the England tour that preceded the West Indies series. He was recalled for the home series against West Indies, but his last ODI appearance before that recall had been during the series against New Zealand in January 2026.
Jadeja was dropped from the playing XI after two matches in the West Indies series, contributing little with either bat or ball. With Axar Patel and Washington Sundar both expected to return to the ODI setup after the Asian Games, the left-arm spinning all-rounder could find it difficult to retain his place in the squad for the New Zealand tour.
2. Dhruv Jurel

Dhruv Jurel was named in the West Indies ODI squad as a wicketkeeper-batter alongside KL Rahul in the 15-man group. However, Jurel was unable to feature in the playing XI during the series. Jurel has primarily established himself in Test cricket at the international level, and his ODI opportunities have been limited.
Ishan Kishan is expected to return to the squad after the Asian Games, and his comeback could push Jurel out of contention for the New Zealand tour. Kishan was a regular feature in India’s series against Afghanistan and England, and could push for a place in the middle order, which would leave Jurel’s chances in jeopardy.
3. Auqib Nabi

Auqib Nabi, the right-arm medium-pace bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, received his maiden ODI call-up for the West Indies series. He had previously been named in India’s Test squad for the Sri Lanka tour in August 2026 without making his Test debut on that trip. Nabi was handed his ODI cap in the second match at Guwahati on September 30 but could not pick up a wicket on debut.
The West Indies squad also featured Mohammed Siraj and Gurnoor Brar as pace options, and with Jasprit Bumrah expected to return after the Asian Games, Nabi may struggle to hold his place in the New Zealand touring party.
