Sourav Ganguly was officially announced as head coach of Delhi Capitals on October 6, 2026, ahead of the IPL 2027 season. This is his first formal head coaching role with the franchise, having previously served as an advisor and later as Director of Cricket for both the men’s and women’s teams since 2019.
The coaching change follows an alternating two-year operating cycle agreed between Delhi Capitals’ co-owners. Hemang Badani led the coaching group for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, and Ganguly now takes over for the next cycle. Delhi Capitals finished sixth in the 2026 IPL league stage, and the new management will be looking to improve on that result in IPL 2027. We look at three players who could feature more prominently for the Capitals under the former India captain.
1. Kyle Jamieson

Kyle Jamieson is a tall New Zealand seamer who played just two matches for Delhi Capitals in the 2026 IPL season, taking two wickets across those appearances. His limited opportunities meant he could not establish himself as a regular in the playing eleven under the previous setup.
With Mitchell Starc’s availability for IPL 2027 up in the air given Australia’s international schedule, including the Ashes series and the 2027 ODI World Cup, Delhi Capitals may need to rely more heavily on Jamieson as their primary overseas pace option. A settled run in the side could allow him to demonstrate his full value as a wicket-taking seamer in the powerplay and at the death.
2. Madhav Tiwari

Madhav Tiwari is an all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh who featured in the 2026 IPL season for Delhi Capitals, contributing with both seam bowling and lower-order death hitting. He was part of the squad listed for the 2026 season but only cemented his place in the side in Delhi’s last matches of the campaign.
His inclusion as a consistent option could help Delhi Capitals manage their overseas combinations more effectively. As a domestic all-rounder who can contribute in multiple phases of the game, Tiwari offers the kind of flexibility that a new coaching staff often values when reshaping a squad’s balance.
3. Vipraj Nigam

Kuldeep Yadav’s departure to the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of IPL 2027 leaves a gap in Delhi Capitals’ spin attack. Vipraj Nigam, an all-rounder known for his leg-spin bowling and lower-order hitting, has been in and around India squads in 2026 and is part of the Delhi Capitals setup.
With Axar Patel remaining as captain and first-choice spinner, the second spinner’s role becomes important. Nigam’s leg-spin offers a different dimension alongside Axar’s left-arm orthodox bowling, and a new coaching regime under Ganguly could give him the extended run he needs to establish himself in that position.
