The 2025 Zimbabwe Twenty20 Tri-Series has given us everything we want: close games, exciting finishes, and some amazing batting. As we reach the eagerly awaited final between New Zealand and South Africa, the attention will be on the batters. Both teams have men who can hit the ball a long way, but who will control this title fight? Let’s turn our eyes to the players poised to command the spotlight on this big stage.
Tim Seifert: NZ

In this series, Seifert has played like he’s on a completely different level. He is not just scoring runs, but scoring runs at the pace of a video game. With 415 runs in 9 matches at a staggering strike rate of 177.35, Seifert has taken fast starts to another level. However, not only is the pace remarkable, but the consistency is outstanding as well. An average of 59.29 in T20s is almost absurd. Whether it is slashing over point or whipping over midwicket, Seifert has been a nightmare for bowlers in the Powerplay.
For New Zealand, Tim’s form has been the engine room of their success. In finals, if a game is going to be won or lost in the first six overs—it usually does—and at the present moment, there isn’t a player in world cricket doing that phase quite like Seifert. If he gets going early, South Africa may spend a lot of time chasing leather and shadows.
Reeza Hendricks: SA

He might not have Seifert’s flashy numbers, but Reeza Hendricks has a knack for stepping up in crunch situations. His 244 runs at a strike rate of 136.31 have come when it counts, often panelling together South Africa’s innings during turbulent periods. Hendricks provides composure and elegant strokeplay to a batting line-up that is heavy in muscle.
What makes Hendricks dangerous in the final is his ability to adapt. Hendricks can establish a platform or pick the tempo up in the middle towards the end of each innings, by adapting during the play as well as throughout the 5 T20 matches. If the pitch plays slow—as some surfaces in Harare tend to do—he may have the power and patience to puncture holes with finesse and surgical accuracy.
Rassie van der Dussen: SA

Though new with only six matches, van der Dussen has swiftly stamped his authority on the team. 154 runs at an average of 38.5 and a strike rate of 135.08 are not necessarily jaw-dropping figures, but they certainly yell “RELIABLE”. He is the player who holds one end whilst others go crazy.
In a final, when pressure is cooking the batters at every ball, batsmen like Rassie are worth their weight in gold. He knows how to take it deep, he knows when it’s time to go, and can switch from anchor to aggressor without blinking. It doesn’t matter if SA are chasing or rebuilding, Rassie will be at the centre of the attack.
Both teams have match-winners for days in the NZ vs SA final, but these three batters could have the final say. Seifert’s explosive style, Hendricks’ stylish approach, and van der Dussen’s calm assertiveness give enough batting firepower for this blockbuster.
Can Seifert destroy the target, adding another Powerplay masterclass to his collection? Will Hendricks with his class carry their team through an innings to observably chase down the target? Will Rassie show us that composure is still a currency within T20 cricket?
