India’s three-match ODI series against West Indies has witnessed plenty of fireworks with the bat, but the Indian bowling attack has also produced some notable individual performances. After the first two matches, India have already taken a 2-0 lead, with the bowlers playing an important role in restricting West Indies to competitive totals before the hosts’ batters took control of both run chases.
The second ODI in Guwahati was particularly challenging for the bowlers, with West Indies piling up 405/7 before India chased down the target in just 43.3 overs. Despite the high-scoring nature of the contest, Kuldeep Yadav managed to make an impact by claiming two wickets.
With the third ODI currently underway in New Chandigarh, here are India’s top three wicket-takers in the series based on the completed matches so far.
1. Kuldeep Yadav – 7 wickets
Kuldeep Yadav has been India’s leading wicket-taker in the ODI series, having claimed six wickets in the two completed matches. His performances have been particularly important given the batting-friendly conditions witnessed during the tour.
The left-arm wrist-spinner began the series in sensational fashion in Thiruvananthapuram, producing figures of 4/40 in the opening ODI. His spell helped India restrict West Indies to 295/7 before Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli guided the hosts to victory.
Kuldeep continued his impressive run in the second ODI, taking 2/65 from his 10 overs. Although West Indies amassed 405 runs, Kuldeep remained one of India’s more successful bowlers and dismissed Shai Hope and Keemo Paul. His six wickets have come at an average of 17.50 and a strike rate of 20.00. He picked up only one wicket in the third and final game of the series
His ability to attack through the middle overs has made him India’s most productive bowler in the series so far.
2. Prasidh Krishna – 3 wickets
Prasidh Krishna occupies the second spot with three wickets from the first two ODIs. The right-arm pacer featured in both matches before being ruled out of the series finale because of a left hamstring injury.
Prasidh picked up two wickets in the opening ODI and followed it up with another wicket in Guwahati. In the second match, he finished with figures of 1/45 from five overs.
His wickets have come at a time when India have struggled to consistently contain the West Indies top order. The Caribbean side crossed 290 in both of the first two matches, including a massive 405 in Guwahati.
Despite the difficult conditions for fast bowlers, Prasidh managed to contribute with breakthroughs. However, his injury means he will not be able to add to his tally in the third ODI. Mohammed Siraj returned to India’s playing XI for the series finale, while Anshul Kamboj made his ODI debut.
3. Ravindra Jadeja – 2 wickets
Ravindra Jadeja completed the first two ODIs with two wickets, putting him among India’s leading wicket-takers in the series.
The experienced all-rounder bowled 20 overs across the opening two matches and finished with figures of 2/75 in the second ODI. His spell was expensive by his usual standards, but the conditions in Guwahati offered limited assistance to bowlers as West Indies scored 405/7.
Jadeja’s value, however, extends beyond his wicket tally. His ability to bowl long spells, maintain pressure and contribute with the bat provides India with balance in the ODI format.
The third ODI also provides an opportunity for India to test other options, with Jadeja rested for the series finale.
