Indian cricketer Piyush Chawla could not create as much impact in international cricket as he did in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the leg-spinner delivered a few remarkable spells in ODI cricket and in this article, we will take a look a look his top 3 performances for India in ODI cricket.

Piyush Chawla’s best performance in ODI cricket came against Hong Kong in the 2008 Asia Cup at Karachi. India batted first in the match and posted 374 runs on the board courtesy of centuries from MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina. Well, in the second innings, the job got even tougher for Hong Kong as Piyush Chawla spun the match away from them. In his quota of 10 overs, the young leg-spinner picked up 4 wickets and conceded just 23 runs. Eventually, India won the match by 256 runs.

Piyush Chawla produced his second-best performance of his ODI career against the arch-rivals Pakistan at Mirpur. Batting first India put on 330 runs in the first innings taking an edge in the contest. The Indian fast bowlers picked up early wickets and the momentum was carried on by Piyush Chawla. He dismissed Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi among other wickets to derail Pakistan’s chase. Praveen Kumar and Piyush Chawla’s combined efforts resulted in India’s massive victory by 140 runs. 

3/29 vs Ireland, 2007

The leg-spinner got these 3 wickets against Ireland just a month after his debut in ODI cricket. The Indian team opted to field first after winning the toss and put Ireland to bat. The Indian bowlers proved to be an unassailable force for the Irish batters, especially Sreesanth and Piyush Chawla who picked up 3 wickets each.  The young leg-spinner got rid of Gary Wilson, Kevin O’Brien, and Andrew White in quick succession to weaken the opposition middle order. His 3 wickets helped India register a convincing victory by 9 wickets.
