 Shikhar Dhawan didn’t have a very long Test career. He only played 34 Test matches for India. However, the left-handed batter did produce some memorable knocks, finishing with an average of 40.61 in the longest format of the game.

In the first Test between India and New Zealand in Auckland in February 2014, Shikhar Dhawan scored a fantastic fourth-innings ton. The Kiwis amassed 503 runs in the first innings. In reply, India were bowled out for just 202. Dhawan had registered a three-ball duck in India’s first innings. 

However, after the Black Caps were bowled out for just 105 in their second innings, it was time for the Indian opener to shine. The Delhi-born scored a magnificent 115 off 211 balls, hitting 12 fours and one six. His knock gave the tourists hopes of chasing down an improbable 407-run target. However, they were eventually bowled out for 366. The southpaw, however, earned a lot of praise for his gutsy knock.

In the first Test between India and Sri Lanka in Galle, Dhawan played an exemplary knock in the first innings to set things up for India. The stylish batter scored a breathtaking 190 off just 168 balls, hitting 31 boundaries. He helped India post a mammoth 600 in the first innings. 

Sri Lanka were bowled out for 297 in their first innings. India declared at 240/3 in their second essay, with Dhawan scoring a run-a-ball 14 this time. The hosts were bowled out for 245 in the fourth innings, giving their opposition a comfortable 304-run victory.

Shikhar Dhawan made his Test debut against Australia in Mohali. After the Aussies were bowled out for 408 in their first innings, Dhawan smashed a belligerent 187 off 174 balls, hitting 33 fours and two sixes. The hosts were bowled out for 499. 

Australia managed 223 runs in their second innings, giving India a target of 133 runs. India won the match by six wickets, reaching the target in just 33.3 overs. Dhawan did not bat in the second innings as he was injured while fielding. However, he was adjudged Player of the Match for his dominant display in the first innings.
