It was a stellar knock against a strong Kiwi attack comprising Danny Morrison and Simon Doull. Wasim Akram then took 7/119 to rout New Zealand for 361 in the second innings, as Pakistan won the game by an innings and 12 runs to go 2-0 up in the series.
2. 188 vs India, Kolkata, 1999*
This was the high-profile match between India and Pakistan in the Asian Test Championship, played at Eden Gardens in 1999. Pakistan made 185 in the first innings with Saeed Anwar making 0, as Javagal Srinath took 5/46. India replied with 223 as Shoaib Akhtar announced himself with the wickets of Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. In the second innings, Anwar showed his class with 188* with 23 fours and one six, as Pakistan made 316 despite Srinath’s 8/86. India could only make 232 in the chase of 279, losing by 46 runs. Anwar got the Player of the Match award.
3. 194 vs India, Chennai, 1997*
Pakistan featured in the multi-team Independence Cup 1997 in India. This was the sixth match of the series, played in Chennai. Pakistan batted first and Anwar went on to make 194 in 146 balls with 22 fours and five sixes as Pakistan amassed 327/5 in 50 overs. Anwar’s 194 was the highest ODI individual score back then, beating Sir Viv Richards’ 189*. His record stood until Charles Coventry made 194* in 2009.
