Bradley-John Watling was one of the key and important members of New Zealand’s Test side. Born in Durban, South Africa, and raised in New Zealand, Watling went on to become one of the most dependable wicketkeeper-batters of his generation. The hosts eventually won the game by 193 runs.

While McCullum’s triple hundred grabbed the headlines, Watling’s 124 from 367 balls, including 13 fours, was equally important in rescuing the Kiwis. His batting helped the hosts post 680/8 declared and ensured the match ended in a draw. The result eventually led to New Zealand winning the two-Test series 1-0.
