Gooch won the Player of the Match award, and it was his last award for his batting performance.

2. 129* runs vs West Indies at Port of Spain, 1986

The second ODI of England’s tour of the West Indies was played at Port of Spain. The West Indies scored 229 runs for the loss of three wickets. Gooch remained unbeaten on 129 runs off 118 deliveries and helped England win the game by five wickets.

3. 94 runs vs New Zealand at Scarborough, 1978

In the first ODI of the New Zealand tour of England, Gooch scored 94 runs off 129 deliveries and helped England post a total of 206 runs for the loss of eight wickets. He took two wickets for 29 runs in 10 overs. It was one of the best outings for Gooch in ODI cricket as he won his first Player of the Match award in this format of the game.
