T20 World Cup: 3 Nepal bowlers to watch out for

Nepal are set to feature in their third ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. While they remain relatively young in terms of experience at the global level, Nepal have consistently shown that they can challenge stronger opponents with discipline and skill. One of the major strengths of the Nepal side is its bowling attack, which has the potential to trouble batting line-ups on subcontinental pitches.

Here let us take a look at three Nepalese bowlers to watch out for at the T20 World Cup 2026.

1. Sandeep Lamichhane

Sandeep Lamichhane is undoubtedly Nepal’s biggest bowling star and a proven match-winner in T20 cricket. He was discovered at the age of 14 and his rise has been remarkable. He first gained attention after impressing against an MCC side before showcasing his talent at the Hong Kong T20 Blitz in 2016. His development was further accelerated under the guidance of former Australia captain Michael Clarke, who helped him refine his skills at the highest level.

A leg-spinner with exceptional control and variations, Lamichhane has been devastating in the shortest format. In 68 T20Is, he has claimed 129 wickets at a staggering average of 12.14 and an economy rate of just 6.03.

2. Sompal Kami

Right-arm fast bowler Sompal Kami brings experience and consistency to Nepal’s pace attack. He is known for his ability to hit hard lengths and extract movement with the new ball and has often kept opposition batters in check during powerplays and at the death.

Across 86 T20Is, he has picked up 81 wickets at an economy rate of 7.14. His experience in high-pressure situations could prove vital for Nepal on the big stage, especially if he finds rhythm early in the tournament.

3. Lalit Rajbanshi

Left-arm spinner Lalit Rajbanshi adds variety and control to Nepal’s bowling unit. In 37 T20Is, Rajbanshi has taken 36 wickets at an average of 21.58 and an economy rate of 6.37, highlighting his ability to contain runs while striking regularly.

With the T20 World Cup being played on Asian pitches, Rajbanshi’s turn and drift could be particularly effective. His four overs in the middle phase may prove crucial in breaking partnerships and applying sustained pressure in key matches.
