So far the South African side has lost both games and now take on India in a key second round of league fixtures on Wednesday. With zero points from two games, the South Africans will have to win both the games to keep their hopes of making it to the final.  

Despite their losses in the first two games, one cannot write off the South African side. Proteas have a lot of dangerous batters and bowlers in their side. The next two games against India and Sri Lanka could see the Proteas side show their true potential. This could make the final two games of the series a tantalizing affair.

Laura Wolvaardt

Skipper Laura Wolvaardt is one of the best in the world. The 26-year-old has played over 100 ODI games and scored more than 4000 runs with eight tons and 34 fifties. Wolvaardt has scored 53 runs in the two games with a best of 43 that came against India. Veteran Tazmin Brits has already scored 123 runs from the two games that she has batted this campaign. Brits, hit 109 runs in the loss to India in the first game of the series and yet ended up on the losing side. 

Middle Order

Lara Goodall

Lara Goodall has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit but hasn’t managed to do much justice in the first two games, Goodall has scored just 55 runs with an average of 27.5. Karabo Meso at the age of 17 is counted as one of the best young talents in the world. Meso has just made her international debut and will want to prove to the world that she can make it in the top flight as well. Sane Luus has plenty of experience with the bat and ball, Luus has scored 59 runs with the bat from two and managed to pick just a single wicket so far. 

Lower-order 

Chloe Tryon

31-year-old spinner Chloe Tryon was expected to do well in the spinning tracks of Sri Lanka but hasn’t picked a single wicket so far. Tyron has scored 53 key runs from the first two games. Young Dercksen has played a key role for South Africa in the first two games. Dercksen has scored 91 runs which includes a best of 61 not out in the last game and also taken one wicket with the ball. Nadine de Klerk has managed to pick two wickets from two games but with the bat she has been able to score just 17 runs which also includes a duck. 

Tail enders  

Masabata Klaas

Veteran pacers Masabata Klaas and Khaka have been able to take just two and one wicket each despite their years of experience. The next two games will be key for both players and help South Africa’s hopes alive. Left-arm spinner Mlaba has picked four wickets from the first two games to prove her worth to the South African side so far in this campaign.
