Predicting England’s XI for 5th Test against India

England will take on India in the fifth Test of the ongoing series on July 31, at the Kennington Oval in London. England have included Jamie Overton in the squad for this Test. He last played a Test match three years ago against New Zealand. England is likely to make a few changes to the playing 11 in this game.

Let’s look at the probable playing XI of England for the 5th Test against India:

Top Order:

Zak Crawley

Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope are likely to remain at the top of the order. Crawley has proved to be a weak link in England’s batting unit in the series. He is the only batter who has not scored a century for England in the series. Duckett and Pope have amassed 365 and 257 runs, respectively in the series.

Middle Order:

Joe Root

Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Harry Brook will likely be in the middle order. Root has been on a dominant run and has shattered records in each innings. Stokes is coming with a Player of the Match award in the last outing. Apart from a 99 in the first game and 158 in the second Test, Brook has not managed to cross the 30-run mark in the remaining four innings. Jamie Smith is the leading run-scorer for England in the series.

Bowlers:

Chris Woakes

Chris Woakes is the third-highest wicket-taker for England in the series and has played all four matches. Dawson featured in the playing 11 in the last match and managed to pick one wicket. He is likely to retain his place in the playing 11. Josh Tongue, who played the first two Test matches for England, might make a comeback in the playing 11 in place of Brydon Carse while Gus Atkinson might replace Jofra Archer in the team.
