Sunil Gavaskar is one such player whose name is engraved in the history of cricket in golden letters. He has been an inspiration to all the young cricketers and people who would like to pursue cricket as a career. He has numerous milestones to his name. One such milestone is Gavaskar’s legendary record of scoring 10,000 Test runs on 7th March, 1987, that was played against Pakistan in Ahmedabad. 

Gavaskar scored the 10,000 run mark during his 58th run of the innings. After this iconic footing, the match was paused for a while to celebrate this wonderful milestone. People in Ahmedabad who were a witness to this moment, were seen breaking through the barricades of the stadium to meet the star batter. Gavaskar was known for his legendary skills of defending with the bat. Gavaskar was also known as the ‘little master’. When he would be in the field the team believed, ‘there is still hope.’ There are multiple records that Gavaskar has made and broken during his 16 year long career. 

The star player had represented team India in 125 Test matches, accounting to a total score of 10, 122 runs. He had an average of 51.12 and had scored 34 Test centuries and 45 half-centuries till date. He also had an exclusive One-day International record. He was able to score 3,092 runs in total. He played 108 ODI matches and had an average of 35.13.

Gavaskar was recently seen in the Pakistan team’s dressing room show organised by Ten Sports. To that, he revealed that the star player Imran Khan helped him in many ways to reach the 10,000 run mark. Imran Khan stopped the ‘little master’ from retiring early in 1986 and advised him to retire after the Test tour against Pakistan. Owing to this, unexpectedly, Gavaskar was able to reach the height and be one among the players to script his name in the history of cricket
