OTD | Marizanne Kapp all-round performance helped Perth Scorchers to their first Women's Big Bash title in 2021

On this day on 27th November 2021, the Perth Scorchers team emerged victorious against Adelaide Strikers where they headed to bag the Women’s Big Bash title. Owing to this victory, one of the most prominent names which cannot be forgotten is that of Marizanne Kapp. The exceptional player showed her skills both with the bat and the ball.

Marizanne Kapp can be considered one of the premium South African Women cricketers who debuted in the 2009 World Cup in Australia. She has proved her worth against Pakistan, where she scored 102 runs during the match in Cuttack in the year 2013.

Kapp scripted history by becoming the first woman cricketer to take a hat trick in a Women’s Twenty20 International match. She was also the third cricketer to have played in a hundred Women’s ODI matches.

Right ahead of the game, she had fallen sick, irrespective of which, she showed an exceptional game scoring 31 off 23 balls, which turned out to be extremely beneficial for the team. Besides her show with the bat, Kapp had been terrific with the ball. During the powerplay, the first two overs, the Strikers were restricted as they only had the chance to score only two runs with the bat.

The star opener in the Stickers team Katei Mack was dismissed by the fifth over. Both the openers were dismissed without getting an opportunity to score much during the powerplay. This came as a shocker for the Strikers. It was quite a disheartening match for the Strikers as they just needed 36 runs in the final three overs that were left. Madeline Penna gave her best and scored 30 runs off 21 balls, but their efforts fell short and the Perth Scorchers were able to enjoy their maiden victory in the game.
