OTD | Kumar Sangakkara played his last Test match against India in 2015

OTD | Kumar Sangakkara played his last Test match against India in 2015

Sangakkara is one of the best batters in the world who has had a beautiful career playing for Sri Lanka. For a long time, he managed to bat and keep at the same time, which is an absolutely beautiful thing. However, on August 24, 2015, he played his last test match and announced his retirement. The stylish batter played in 124 Tests and scored 12400 runs at an average of 57.14. He was an all-format player who gave his best no matter which tournament he played, which is an unbelievable stunt.

However, in his last Test match, which was against India, when they went on a tour, he scored 32 runs in the first innings and 18 runs in the second innings. He received a standing ovation from the crowd for one minute which made the cricketer quite emotional. Playing his last game in his home ground was definitely an emotional moment for him, and the ovation was just the Cherry on the Cake which he’ll remember forever. After his first innings, he received a Guard of Honor from the Indian team and the umpires, which was a beautiful scene to watch.

Moreover, India won the Test match by 278 runs as KL Rahul scored 108 runs in the first innings which gave the Men in Blue an upper edge on the Test match. The Indian team did their job but the Sri Lankan team, especially the batters, were low on confidence and hence, couldn’t perform and give a dream farewell to their legendary batter. However, skipper Angelo Matthews scored 102 runs and helped Sri Lanka reach a decent score in the first innings. For his brilliant performance, KL Rahul was awarded the Player of the Match.
