OTD | Jasprit Bumrah was born in 1993

OTD Jasprit Bumrah was born in 1993

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will celebrate his 32nd birthday on December 6, 2025. He is considered one of the best fast bowlers of the present age and has established himself as one of the greatest fast bowlers to have ever played for the Indian cricket team.

Bumrah made his India debut in an ODI against Australia in Sydney on January 23, 2016. He recorded figures of 2/40 in an outstanding debut. Bumrah made his T20I debut in Adelaide against the same opposition, taking 3/23 in his first outing.

His Test debut was a bit delayed and came in 2018 against South Africa in Cape Town. He dismissed AB de Villiers as his maiden Test wicket. Since then, he has become the leading all-format bowler of the Indian team.

Bumrah has frequently produced bowling performances that have won matches when his team has faced difficult circumstances. In addition to being a model of accuracy in all three forms, he has proven to be a death overs expert who may change the course of a match with his unplayable yorkers in limited-overs cricket.

Bumrah has taken 234 wickets at an average of 19.79 in 52 Tests, including the best bowling figures of 6/27. He also has a Test hat-trick that he took against the West Indies. Bumrah has also excelled in ODIs, taking 149 wickets at an economy of 4.59 in 89 games, with the best bowling figures of 6/19.

The best format for Bumrah has been T20Is, where he has 99 wickets at an economy of 6.36, with the best bowling figures of 3/7. Bumrah also won the Player of the Tournament in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 win in Barbados.

Bumrah has excelled in the Indian Premier League as well, making his debut in 2013 with the Mumbai Indians and winning the IPL five times, in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. The Gujarat-born cricketer has also led India in two T20Is and two Test matches so far. He had let go of the captaincy due to his injury and workload issues.
