OTD | Former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis was born in 1984

One of the most incredible batters of South Africa, Faf du Plessis, was born on July 13, 1984. He is one of those players who doesn’t play with a straight bat or with a proper stance but knows how to tackle the bowlers when the ball is in his slot. He has played some stunning knocks against some of the best bowlers in the world and has also captained the South African cricket team. 

Du Plessis is an incredible player who plays all the league games worldwide. He was an integral part of Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and now is the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. With CSK, he won two titles in 2018 and 2021. However, his most significant role is with the South African cricket team, where he debuted in 2012 and has been the team’s backbone ever since, earning the pride and appreciation of fans worldwide. 

He was also the main reason behind South Africa’s qualification for the semi-finals in the ODI World Cup 2015. In 2015, he also became the 2nd South African batter to score a century in the T20Is. Overall, he has played 69 Test matches and scored 4163 runs at an average of 40.02. In ODIs, he played 143 innings and scored 5507 runs at an average of 47.47. At last, in the T20Is, he played 50 innings and scored 1528 runs at an average of 35.53. Even though he hasn’t announced his retirement from cricket, he isn’t included in the national team. Hence, he plays all the league matches from all over the world and has recently scored a century in the MLC tournament.
