OTD | England's World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan was born today in 1986

Eoin Morgan became the first-ever England team captain to lift the 50-over World Cup trophy for the country. He became the skipper of the England team under chaotic circumstances, which was less than two months before the commencement of the 2015 World Cup. On this day in 1986, the legendary England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan was born.

He has been passionate about the game since his childhood and at a very young age of 16, he made a debut internationally against Scotland. The wonderful leader and skipper helped his team through a dramatic and drastic change where the team was able to come forward as the greatest in the historic stadium of Lord’s in July, 2019 World Cup. The England team was able to set records by their name as they became the No 1 ODI side with highest scores in the format.

During 2013 and 2014, Morgan was able to score 560 runs in the ODI format. In the meantime, Alastair Cook’s poor form pushed him in the backfoot. This was a chance for the star player Eoin Morgan to lead the team to the 2015 World Cup. Morgan was unpopular with the ECB administration. He identified the chaotic conditions of the England dressing room and the flaws which were restricting the growth of the England cricket team. Owing to this, he pinpointed the problems and put forth proposals for development.

Eoin Morgan was one among those cricketers who were in favor of IPL more than England’s County Cricket. He felt that IPL was a platform set for the cricketers which could bring in more exposure to the players. He had to undergo the criticism from the British media for his thought and approach, but Morgan remained unaffected by this and went ahead with the process either ways.
