On this day in 1957, Chris Broad was born in Knowle, Bristol, England. The former England cricketer had a brief career playing for his national side and batted well in a difficult era for the batters. He is the father of Stuart Broad, one of the best bowlers the sport has ever seen. Chris Broad played for several teams at the domestic level like Gloucestershire, Nottinghamshire, and Orange Free State.

Broad made his Test debut on 28th June 1984 against West Indies. In the longest format of the game, he got an opportunity to represent England on 25 occasions. His last Test happened to be against Australia on the 17th of June 1989. Likewise, he had a short career in ODIs which lasted for about 17 months. He played well for England in the period, especially at the ODI World Cup in 1987.

Chris made his ODI debut on 1st January 1987 against Australia. In the same year, he went on to play in the ODI World Cup. England were the runner-ups in the tournament and Broad made an impact with the bat. At the grandest stage in alien conditions, Broad played 10 matches and scored 386 runs including 3 fifty-plus scores. His ODI career ended on the 24th of May 2024 against the West Indies.

Broad played 25 Test matches and scored 1661 runs at a healthy batting average of 39.54 including 6 hundreds and fifties each. His best score in the longest format of the game was 162. In ODIs, he scored 1361 runs in 34 matches at a batting average of 40.02. He registered a hundred and 11 fifty-plus scores in his ODI career. His FC cricket and List-A career records were good too.

In FC cricket, he played 340 matches and added 21892 runs at a batting average of 38.07 including 50 hundreds and 107 fifties. In their List A career, Broad played 319 matches and added 10396 runs at a batting average of 34.76 including 11 hundred and 68 fifties. Apart from his playing career, Chris was known for his career as a cricket broadcaster.
