OTD | Chennai Super Kings won their fourth IPL title by beating KKR in the final in 2021

After three years of wait, the Chennai Super Kings team lifted the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy in 2021. Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, CSK lifted their fourth trophy on October 15. It was a proud moment for all the fans who were waiting for Dhoni to lift the trophy again.

The finals happened in Dubai, where Eoin Morgan won the toss and chose to field first. Their decision turned into disappointment as openers Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad wreaked havoc from the first ball of the innings.

Du Plessis is known to be the savior of the CSK team, and he played a mindblowing innings of 86 runs off 59 balls, including seven boundaries and three sixes. Gaikwad also played well, scoring 32 runs off 27 balls.

The rest of the batters also played well and helped CSK score 192 runs at the loss of three wickets in 20 overs. It was a brilliant batting effort from the batters, and then everything depended on the bowlers.

The bowlers’ game shocked the CSK fans to the core. The openers made a 91-run partnership with Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer scoring half-centuries. But Lord Shardul Thakur came into recuse for CSK in the 10th over and gave them their first breakthrough. He dismissed Iyer first, and then the entire batting order fell like a pack of cards.

The middle order collapsed with no batter scoring more than ten runs. The tailenders put in some effort, but it wasn’t sufficient as KKR lost the game by 27 runs. Shardul Thakur claimed three wickets while Josh Hazelwood and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each. Deepak Chahar and Dwayne Bravo took one wicket each, contributing to CSK’s win.
