It was on this day in 1994, that one of the best Pakistani batters, Babar Azam, was born in Lahore, Punjab. Babar Azam stands as the modern face of Pakistan cricket, a symbol of class, consistency, and calmness.

Babar’s cricket journey began in Lahore’s under-15 and under-19 circuits. He was a consistent junior performer who represented Pakistan in the 2010 and 2012 Under-19 World Cups, scoring one of the team’s highest totals.

His international debut for Pakistan came in May 2015 against Zimbabwe, where he immediately impressed with his fluid strokeplay. Babar quickly established himself as a global sensation, with three consecutive ODI hundreds against the West Indies in 2016.

He rose to prominence when he was made captain of the Pakistan team in 2020 and took them to the semi-final of the 2021 T20 World Cup and the final of the 2022 Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. 

Babar has scored 4235 runs at an average of 42.77 in 59 Tests, including nine centuries and 29 half-centuries, with the highest score of 196. He has made 6291 runs at an average of 54.23 and a strike rate of 87.63 in 134 ODIs, including 19 centuries and 37 fifties, with the best score of 158.

Babar has been mercurial in T20Is, scoring 4223 runs at a strike rate of 129.22 in 128 games, including three centuries and 36 fifties, with the best score of 122.

Babar holds various records, including being the fastest to 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 & 5000 ODI runs among Asian players. He was the ICC Men’s ODI cricketer of the year in 2021 and 2022.

As he reaches his prime years, Babar continues to pursue excellence, demonstrating that consistency and grace can coexist in modern cricket.
