OTD Australia made it to their eighth ODI World Cup final in 2023

Australia defeated South Africa by three wickets in the second semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2023 on this day in 2023. Australia chased down the target of 213 runs in 47.2 overs and made it to their eighth ODI World Cup final in 2023.

South Africa finished in second place in the points table with seven wins. Australia also won seven games and finished third.

South Africa elected to bat after winning the toss against Australia. The Proteas lost their first four wickets for a mere 24 runs before Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller added 95 runs for the fifth wicket and took the team’s total over the 100-run mark. Travis Head dismissed Klassen and Marco Jansen in the 31st over. Klaasen scored 47 runs off 48 deliveries.

Miller played the role of lone warrior and finished with 101 runs off 116 deliveries. No other batter managed to make more than 20 runs apart from Miller and Klaasen as Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins took three wickets each for Australia. Josh Hazlewood and Travis Head picked two wickets each as South Africa were bundled out for 212 runs in 49.4 overs.

David Warner and Head had a partnership of 60 runs for the first wicket. Mitchell Marsh was dismissed for a duck in the 8th over. Head made 62 runs off 48 deliveries before getting out in the 15th over. Australia lost the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne and Glenn Maxwell by the time the 25th over was completed. Australia lost two more wickets before reaching the 200-run mark but Starc (16 runs) and Cummins (14 runs) finished the match for Australia.

The team took 47.2 overs to reach the target of 213 runs and won the match by three wickets. Head won the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance.
