Javed Miandad, the renowned batter for Pakistan, became the youngest player to reach a double century in Test cricket on this day. In Karachi, he accomplished this incredible feat against New Zealand. Miandad took advantage of the conditions to play a magnificent knock, a “test delight,” as they say, on a wicket that proved to be a batting paradise.

At the National Stadium in Karachi, on a batting-friendly field, Pakistan captain Mushtaq Mohammad chose to bat first after winning the toss. Pakistan’s batting was begun by the opening pair of Majid Khan and Sadiq Mohammad. Both batters got off to respectable starts. Richard Collinge removed Majid Khan after their opening partnership lasted 147 runs.

Suddenly, Pakistan was in trouble after the Kiwis swiftly sent Zaheer Khan back as well. With the burden of stabilizing his team’s innings, young Javed Miandad enters the game. Pakistan was 161/3 from 147/0 as opener Sadiq Mohammad was out shortly after.

Together with his captain, Mushtaq Mohammad, Javed Miandad provided stability to the disintegrating Pakistani batting order. Without losing any more wickets, both managed to advance the innings by navigating the Kiwi attack, which was spearheaded by Richard Hadlee. With a huge partnership of 252 runs, this pair put Pakistan in a very strong position.

Javed Miandad batted after Mushtaq Mohammad returned to the pavilion, scoring his second century of the game. Afterward, he demonstrated his class by scoring a tough double hundred. It was crucial that Miandad remained resolute when his team most needed him.

He had already scored 206 runs when Richard Collinge finally got rid of him. This match ended in a draw for Pakistan since New Zealand and Pakistan were evenly matched. Although there was no outcome from the test, Javed Miandad’s bravery and his first double century will live on in history.
