MLC 2025: Predicting MI New York’s Playing XI for the clash against Washington Freedom

Mumbai Indians New York (MINY) finally won their first game of the season after beating Seattle Orcas in their last game. Nicholas Pooran and his side began their season with two successive losses. In the third game, the Orcas batted first and scored 200 on the board with Kyle Mayers top scoring with 88 not out, while Shayan Jahangir scored 43. 

In reply, Monank Patel top-scored with 93 off just 50 balls, while Michael Bracewell was not out on 50. Speaking after the win, Pooran said, “Very relieved. Coming here, either of us had to get on the board. But happy to have won. We keep facing the same challenges. We are bowling well in certain areas of the game. The partnership between Monank and Michael Bracewell was crucial”

Top order  

USA skipper Monank Patel batted well in the last game against Seattle and was unlucky to miss out on a century. Patel has years of experience and has been one of the best players for the USA as well as in MLC. Former South African star Quinton de Kock has made a slow start to the MLC 2025 season and will be looked at to come good with the bat against the Orcas. 

Middle Order  

New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell is a very dangerous batter who can change the course of the game with his big-hitting skills. The 34-year-old is also a very good bowler with the ability to take key wickets. Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard will be the key batters for MINY as the former West Indian duo can showcase their power game with the bat. 

Lower-order 

MINY went in with Heath Richards for the first time this season, and the 24-year-old bowled just one over and didn’t get a chance to bat. Richards is touted as one of the most promising players in the US cricket circuit. Dhillon and Patel are more than capable with the bat lower down the order and are also more than handy with the ball. 

Tail enders 

Veteran Kiwi pacer Trent Boult has been at his steady best with the ball and continues to prove why he is the best in the T20 format. Naveen Ul Haq and Ehsan Adil have done decently well with the ball so far this campaign. Naveen, in particular, has done well with the new ball as well as in the death overs.
