LPL 2026, M5: Kandy Royals Predicted Playing XI

LPL 2026, M5 Kandy Royals Predicted Playing XI

The Kandy Royals (KR) will be aiming to continue their positive run in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 when they face the Colombo Kaps (CK) in Match 5 at the Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, on Sunday, July 19. Led by the experienced Angelo Mathews, the Royals boast a well-balanced squad comprising explosive batters, dependable all-rounders, and a quality bowling attack. Here’s a look at Kandy Royals’ predicted playing XI for the contest:

Top-order: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Kusal Perera, Moeen Ali

Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz is expected to open the innings. Known for his fearless strokeplay, Gurbaz has the ability to take the game away from the opposition during the Powerplay. A quick start from him could set the tone for the Royals.

Joining him at the top is Kusal Perera, one of Sri Lanka’s most destructive T20 batters. The left-hander thrives on attacking the new ball and has the experience to handle pressure situations. If Perera gets going, he can put the opposition bowlers on the back foot from the outset.

England all-rounder Moeen Ali is likely to slot in at No. 3. Moeen brings immense experience from franchise leagues around the world and can play according to the match situation. Apart from his batting, his off-spin provides an additional bowling option, making him one of the most valuable players in the lineup.

Middle-order: Angelo Mathews (c), Muditha Lakshan, Wanindu Hasaranga, Vijay Shankar

Captain Angelo Mathews is expected to anchor the middle order with his vast experience. A proven performer in Sri Lankan conditions, Mathews can rebuild the innings if early wickets fall while also accelerating towards the end if required.

Muditha Lakshan is likely to occupy the No. 5 position. The right-handed batter has shown the ability to rotate the strike well and play useful knocks in the middle overs, making him an important link between the top and lower order.

Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga adds tremendous balance to the side. Renowned for his leg-spin, Hasaranga is equally capable of making valuable contributions with the bat, especially during the death overs.

India’s Vijay Shankar is expected to complete the middle order. His all-round abilities give the Royals added flexibility, as he can chip in with crucial runs and provide a few overs of medium pace when needed.

Bowlers: Isitha Wijesundara, Asitha Fernando, Nuwan Thushara, Zahir Khan

Isitha Wijesundara is likely to feature as the pace-bowling all-rounder, offering useful lower-order runs while strengthening the bowling attack.

Sri Lanka pacer Asitha Fernando is expected to lead the seam attack with the new ball. His ability to generate movement and bowl disciplined lines makes him a key wicket-taking option.

Alongside him, Nuwan Thushara will bring pace and his slingy action, which has troubled batters in T20 cricket. He is expected to play an important role during both the Powerplay and the death overs.

Completing the bowling attack is Afghanistan left-arm wrist-spinner Zahir Khan. His variations and ability to extract turn in the middle overs could prove crucial as Kandy Royals look to outclass Colombo Kaps and register another important win in the tournament.
