IPL 2025: 3 reasons why KKR lost to GT

Gujarat Titans have topped the points table after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 39 runs in IPL 2025. GT now has 12 points and has one step into the playoffs. With the help of Shubman Gill scoring 90 runs, the team managed to score 198 runs. While going for the chase, KKR failed to dominate with the bat as GT bowlers were all over them. 

With this defeat, KKR dropped to seventh spot in the IPL points table. The defending champions have won only three matches out of five.. To get into the playoffs, KKR has a slight chance and must work on its mistakes.

1. Failing to break the opening partnership

Winning the toss and elected to bowl first was one of the major mistakes made by Ajinkya Rahane. As the Eden Garden wicket is batting-friendly, Gujarat Titans openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill took full advantage. For the first wicket, both openers had strong control over the game and did not allow KKR bowlers to take a wicket. KKR finally got a wicket, but it was too late as 114 runs were put for the first wicket. 

2. Collapse in batting

Batting first Gujarat Titans set a target of 198 runs for KKR batters. For the game against GT, KKR dropped Quinton de Kock and bought Ahmanullah Gurbaz in place of him. Due to poor form with the bat, de Kock was benched for the game. However, Ahmanullah Gurbaz did not make an impact in the match as he went to the dugout on 1 run. Later, Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 50 runs, failed to convert it into a century. Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who usually bats in the middle order, was sent to bat at number nine. His efforts were wasted even though he scored 27 runs and remained not out. 

3. Failed to take advantage of home conditions

This KKR is not taking the help of home conditions. The loss against GT marked KKR’s fourth home defeat in the ongoing IPL season. To start the season, RCB defeated KKR at home. Before facing the Gujarat Titans, the team had lost an afternoon game to Lucknow Super Giants. The wicket appears to be a problem for the team.
