IPL 2025: 3 key reasons why Gujarat Titans (GT) lost to LSG

Despite scoring a respectable 180/6, the Gujarat Titans lost by 6 wickets to Lucknow Super Giants in their most recent IPL 2025 match at Ekana Cricket Stadium.  Even though Shubman Gill scored a respectable 60 runs GT was defeated by LSG. 

GT now stands in second place in the points table. At the same time, LSG is placed in the third spot. At the time there was a chance for Shubman Gill to win the game but he made some mistakes which led the team to defeat. Hence on that note, we look at three reasons why GT lost the game to LSG.

1. Poor use of bowlers

Throughout the chase, Gill’s bowling management was his most obvious error. Mohammed Siraj bowled all his four overs and gave 50 runs and failed to take a wicket In the meantime, Mohd Arshad Khan, who kept up a superb economy rate of 5.50, was restricted to just two overs.  When Nicholas Pooran was in the crease he could have come up with some plan and used his bowlers properly. The turning point of the match came when Nichalos Pooran struck three sixes in a single over off Sai Kishore.

2. Poor field placement

LSG took advantage of GT field placement. Aiden Markram steadily discovered openings in the off-side and cover zones, amassing nine boundaries in comparable places without modifying the field.  Nicholas Pooran also took use of the same hitting zones, mostly in the long-on and midwicket areas, where he hit seven sixes.

3. Failed to use batters

Gill lacked the required aggressiveness in the later portion of his innings using his batting strategy. When the scenario called for a more explosive finish, he was unable to change gear, even though he scored a decent 60 runs at a strike rate of 150.00. Washington Sundar was promoted to the number four spot in the hope of attacking but he failed to do so. GT had proper finishers like Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan to do the work but Gill did not send them above.
