Mitchell Santner-led New Zealand side began their 2025 Champions Trophy title hunt with a 60-run win over Pakistan. It was a huge win considering Pakistan are not just the host of the tournament but also the defending champions. Centuries from the blazing blades of Will Young and Tom Latham and a late charge by Glenn Phillips led the Kiwis to 320 on the board. In reply, Pakistan were all out for 260 with Khushil Shah (69) and Babar Azam (64) being the top scorers.
Winning captain Mitchell Santner speaking at the end of the game said “Pleased with the way we went about it. Pakistan bowled well, so in the middle stage when Latham and Young could build a partnership that was great, they scored a few boundaries as well. Understanding the conditions and the opposition was crucial. You have to hit a slightly shorter length out here and for spinners, it is about bowling slower. This win shows if we can do the hard yards with the bat, then we can carry on with the ball and put the squeeze on the opposition.
Here are the top three bowlers from Pakistan vs New Zealand clash:
3- Abrar Ahmed

Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed was the best bowler for his side with 1/47 from his ten overs. The right-arm spinner had the Kiwi batters in trouble with his guile and his persistence was rewarded with the wicket of Devon Conway for ten runs. Abrar was the only bowler that none of the Kiwi batters could get runs against. Despite Young, Latham, and Phillips later going after the bowlers, Abrar Ahmed came out unscathed.
2- William O Rourke

Young New Zealand seamer William O Rourke continued to show the world why he was considered the next best pacer in his country. The 23-year-old began by getting the key wicket of Saud Shakeel caught by Matt Henry for six. The biggest was yet to come as Rourke bowled a wide one only for Rizwan to throw his hands and get caught by Glenn Phillips for three. The final wicket for O Rourke was that of Khushdil Shah who was blazed his way to 69 before holing out to Michael Bracewell.
1- Mitchell Santner

New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner has grown leaps and bounds since his amazing bowling during the Indian tour. Santner picked 3/66 from his ten overs which included the wickets of Babar Azam for 64 and also the scalps of Tayyab Tahir and Haris Rauf. The left-arm spinner made sure that he didn’t let Pakistan get off the blocks and his penetrative bowling helped New Zealand build pressure on the hosts.
