Afghanistan’s top 3 performers from their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign

Afghanistan registered an embarrassing 9-wicket loss to South Africa in the semi-final 1 game of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. They were bundled out for just 56 runs while batting first and failed to do wonders with the ball as well. The Proteas claimed a convincing win with 67 balls to spare and got the qualification ticket for the final.

However, the Afghanistan side had a dream run in the tournament as they defeated the two Cricket giants New Zealand and Australia during the group and Super 8 stage respectively. They displayed a brilliant all-round performance throughout the tournament and showed that they are the upcoming Cricket powerhouse.

1. Rahmanullah Gurbaz

Afghanistan’s star opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz has displayed a brilliant batting performance in the tournament as he is still leading the highest run-scorer list with 281 runs in 8 innings with the strike rate of 124.33. Gurbaz also helped Afghanistan multiple times in the tournament to get a fighting total when other batters failed to do anything.

2. Fazalhaq Faroouqi

Just like Gurbaz, Faroouqi is also at the top but in the highest wicket-taker list with 17 wickets in 8 matches. The left-arm seamer has been very effective throught the tournament. His ability to get early breakthroughs in the powerplay helped Afghanistan defend many small targets.

3. Rashid Khan

The most-experienced player and the skipper of the Afghanistan Cricket team Rashid Khan proved his worth once again as he claimed 14 wickets in 8 matches. He was also very effective with his bat as well. However, the skipper couldn’t do anything in the semi-final game against South Africa which led to an embarrassing defeat.
