The game no.53, saw defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) winning the game by 1 runs against Rajasthan Royals (RR). After winning the toss, Kolkata Knight Riders managed to score 206 runs on the scoreboard. Andre Russell’s 57 runs and Rinku Singh’s small cameo towards the end, was helpful for KKR to cross 200 runs mark. Earlier Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi batting help them to get momentum.
However, Riyan Parag had some different plans for chasing the target. Riyan Parag got less support from the other end as wickets were failing. He had different intentions despite seeing batters going to the dressing room and he scored 95 runs. He also hit six sixes in the match and five back-to-back sixes to Moeen Ali. But his effort went in vain as Rajasthan Royals lost the game due to some poor decision.
1. Poor Bowling in death overs:
Rajasthan Royals failed to apply pressure on KKR batters throughout the game. KKR batters got a good start, but even in death overs, RR bowlers did not got wickets. When Russell joined Raghuvanshi at the crease, they had partnership 61 runs together. After Raghuvanshi got out, Russell took his game to the next level and smashed 57 runs from 25 balls. In 18 overs of the game, RR got the wicket of Raghuvanshi, and Rinku Singh stepped up to bat. With just two overs left in the game, Russell and Rinku formed a partnership of 34 runs as Rinku scored 19 runs off 6 balls.
2. Top order collapse:
With the target set of 206 runs by KKR, RR needed a strong start from the top order. But it did not happen as Vabihav Suryavashi went back to the dressing room on four runs and Krunal Singh Rathore, who was playing his first game, went on duck. Yashavi Jaiswal was left alone on the crease until Riyan Parag joined him.
3. Bottling the run chase:
After getting a poor start to the run chase, Yashavi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag’s partnership helped the team get back in the game. With Riyan Parag scoring 95 runs from 45 balls, it looked like the game was almost finished for KKR. But KKR got a breakthrough, and suddenly the game got away from RR. Even though Shimron Hetmyer and Shubham Dubey gave their best effort, it was not enough for the team. In the last over, Shubham Dubey hit three sixes to Vaibhav Arora, and on the last ball, when three runs were needed he ran for a double, but eventually run out.
