3 Reasons Why NSC Lost to MO in the 30th Match of The Hundred Men 2025

3 Reasons Why NSC Lost to MO in the 30th Match of The Hundred Men 2025

In the Hundred Men 2025 Leeds was alive on August 26 when the Northern Superchargers came on to the field, bat in hand, looking to take the game to the Manchester Originals. They had the best possible start with Samit Patel blasting 42 from 19 deliveries and David Miller looking dangerous with 30 towards the end of their innings, leaving the promise of a chaseable total.

Alas, cricket had its own ideas and by the time the 100 balls were completed, the team finished on 139/8—a score that seemed respectable enough but showed flaws too grave to overlook.

A staggered top and middle order

The first reason for the loss was the painfully staggered top and middle order. Dawid Malan’s 3 and Dan Lawrence’s 8 were extinguished very quickly, and the team was left gasping for any semblance of momentum. Zak Crawley and Harry Brook provided momentary respite, but their 17 and 20 runs left the innings in a floundering state.

Even Samit Patel’s excellent cameo could not repair the damage you did earlier. It was a classic case of starts without finishes – a batting collapse that left the Originals with an achievable target, while the Superchargers instead were chasing ghosts rather than runs.

Jos Buttler’s game-changing blitz

Moreover, the Originals had Jos Buttler in full party mode and displayed foolishness with trumpets and a parade. Buttler came to the crease when it was 31/2 on the board and then went to work, scoring 70 runs off just 37 balls with seven fours and five sixes, many of which were towering. The crowd at Headingley looked on in horror as each strike stripped another hope from the Superchargers and also saw two catches taken, which showed the Originals’ superiority.

In only 23 deliveries, Rachin Ravindra powered his way to 47 runs, leaving the opposition feeling the heat of his assault. Buttler’s innings was not just a display of his talent but an absolutely mortally crushing hammer blow which put the Superchargers gagging for air and chasing shadows as anything more than a total.

Situational missteps and fielding lapses

As if that weren’t bad enough, extras compounded their troubles. The Superchargers bowled decently after that, with Aspinwall taking 3/17 and Potts looking respectable in the middle. But with all the dropped catches and missed chances, and not stopping Ravindra and Buttler in a rapid partnership, even if it could not be sustained in the pressure of the final overs.

The Extras (six wides and misfields) were quietly creeping towards the Originals’ chase, while the Superchargers had contributed some flashes of brilliance at times from a few players and some shallow depth to counter an uphill task of chasing down. Runways in a Leeds defence, as they need to be clear and precise, were both absent through their errors.

Northern superchargers were hopeful of a remarkable win and ended with a learning experience. The collapse, Buttler having a blitz, and some situational mindgap all conspired to deny them.
