3 reasons why MS Dhoni’s appointment as CSK skipper can improve team’s performance

MS Dhoni is back at the helm of affair as the captain of Chennai Super Kings for a third time. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury meant that the 28-year-old was ruled out of the current campaign with CSK ninth in the table. Chennai will want Dhoni to take the team out of the mire that they find themselves as the season heads into the half-way mark.

Since 2008 till 2021, Dhoni had led Chennai to four IPL titles. In 2022, Ravindra Jadeja was named as the captain but an early season stumble sawn Jadeja getting replaced by Dhoni as the captain in the middle of the season. In the very next year, MS Dhoni led Chennai to their fifth IPL title to level Rohit Sharma’s five title wins.

Here are the three reasons why MS Dhoni’s return as CSK skipper can improve the team

3- Still a great reader of the game

Even at the age of 43, MS Dhoni can be seen guiding the fielders and instructing the bowlers from behind the stumps. During his international career, MS Dhoni was known to read the state of the game much earlier than expected and make the bowling changes accordingly. One can expect Dhoni to bring out all his experience and try to help Chennai turn the tide after a woeful start to the season.

2- Ability to recoup his core group’s confidence

One of the biggest problems for CSK this season has been the bowling of Jadeja and Ashwin. The veteran duo haven’t been able to pick wickets and this has seen Chennai concede a lot of runs in the powerplay overs. Ashwin and Jadeja have been effective under Dhoni’s captaincy during their India days as well in the IPL. Ashwin in particular will benefit from Dhoni’s return as captain as the former India spinner looks to regain his form.

1- Prior title winning experiences

One thing MS Dhoni has his valuable experience of winning the IPL title on multiple occasions. The 43-year-old will first look to make Chepauk the fortress it was once as CSK lost to RCB for the first time at home since 2008 and to Delhi Capitals their first home loss since 2010. Dhoni will also want to put a core group together witch out much changes which has been his blueprint in various title wins previously.
