3 reasons why LSG went all in for Rishabh Pant in the IPL 2025 mega auction

3 reasons why LSG went all in for Rishabh Pant in the IPL 2025 mega auction

Explore why LSG went all-in for Rishabh Pant in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Indian wicketkeeper and batter Rishabh Pant became the costliest player in the history of the Indian Premier League. The 27-year-old was picked by Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday during the IPL Auctions 2025. The bid also broke the record that was set earlier in the evening by Punjab Kings.

Preity Zinta and her side had purchased Shreyas Iyer for INR 26.75 Crores. Once the bid finally settled there was a huge cheer because Delhi had decided to use the RTM card. That’s when Lucknow decided to raise the stakes and upped the bid to 27 Crores which wasn’t matched by the Capitals.

Lucknow also splashed the cash on some huge names. South African duo Aiden Markram and David Miller were brought while Aussie star Mitchell Marsh was picked for INR 3.4 crore. Indian pacer Avesh Khan was back with LSG after a brief stint with Rajasthan along with Abdul Samad and local lad Aryan Juyal.

Here are the three reasons why LSG brought Rishabh Pant during IPL Auction 2025

3. Current form with the bat

Ever since his return to cricket, Rishabh Pant has been showing consistency with the bat. Even during the first innings of the Perth Test match, Pant scored 37 runs and added 48 runs for the 7th wicket with Nitish Reddy. During the Chennai Test against Bangladesh, Pant scored a century which helped India win. Even during the home series against New Zealand, Pant was the only batter who was the main man for India.

2. formidable batting unit

With Nicholas Pooran already with Lucknow, the team management was looking for an Indian batter with equal pedigree. No one better than Pant fits the ball as the 27-year-old can take the game away from the opposition with ease. With his natural aggressive flair and ability to play unconventional shots, Pant is a poster boy for T20 cricket across the world.

Captaincy candidate for the next few seasons

At the age of 27, MS Dhoni made his first foray into IPL with Chennai Super Kings in 2008 as the skipper. Lucknow seemingly wants to emulate the same mantra and build a team around Pant that doesn’t need to be changed much for the next few years. Pant is set to enter his cricketing prime in a few years and Lucknow has been very tactical about buying India’s most destructive player.
