3 reasons why Jofra Archer’s addition to the England squad will be a threat for India

3 reasons why Jofra Archer's addition to the England squad will be a threat for India

Jofra Archer was recalled for the Test side for the first time in over 4 years. The last time the right-arm pacer featured in a Test was against India in Chennai in 2021. Since then, due to numerous injuries, the express pacer was in and out of the side and mostly played limited overs cricket for England and franchises.

Archer is back in the Test setup and seems to be at his best since 2020. He bowled 14 overs in county cricket and proved match fitness. While there is a concern over his proneness to injuries, Archer brings huge value to the English side, especially in the absence of a veteran like James Anderson.

Here are the three reasons why his inclusion could threaten India. –

Sheer Pace

England’s surfaces are usually slow, and the bowlers find it not too easy unless the surface is green and the conditions are overcast. Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval have slower pitches, and pace can make a difference. Archer is one of the fastest bowlers in the world and can break the back of the batting lineups.

Skill Sets

Apart from being genuinely quick, Archer operates in good line and length. His accuracy with the new ball can trouble the best batters in the world. Along with pace and accuracy, Archer can seam the ball, which makes the lives of the batters only more difficult.

Overall strength of the English attack

By including Archer in the attack, England’s bowling lineup could be uplifted, as all of their pacers would be guns. Chris Woakes, who was ineffective in the first Test, could make way, leading to England’s bowling attack being Archer, Josh Tongue, Brydon Carse, Ben Stokes, and Shoaib Bashir. 3 of their front-line bowlers operate at a good pace, which makes them a quality pace attack.
