3 reasons why India could win 2nd Test

3 reasons why India could win 2nd Test

England are set to face India in the second Test of the series at Edgbaston, Birmingham, starting Wednesday, July 2. Despite scoring five centuries in the first Test at Headingley, India ended up on the losing side, primarily due to lapses in their bowling and fielding. However, with a more disciplined all-round performance, the visitors have a strong chance of bouncing back and levelling the series. Here are three reasons why India could emerge victorious in the second Test.

Batters in perfect condition

India’s batting was a major positive in the first Test. The top-order displayed tremendous form, with centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, skipper Shubman Gill, and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant in the first innings. In the second innings, KL Rahul and Pant once again scored centuries. Scoring 300+ in both innings in testing English conditions is no small feat. If India’s batters continue this form, they can post or chase down any total set by England.

Pace attack can bounce back

India’s pace attack had a mixed outing in the first Test, but they have the resources to come back stronger. Jasprit Bumrah took five wickets in the first innings but went wicketless in the second, while the others could not make a significant impact. However, the Edgbaston pitch is known for offering more swing and seam movement, which could suit the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.

Spin threat in flat conditions

The modern English pitches are more batting-friendly. In such pitches, spinners often play a key role in breaking partnerships and providing crucial breakthroughs. Ravindra Jadeja and the inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav could further strengthen India’s spin arsenal. Their bowling might pose a challenge to England’s aggressive batters and give India the edge on the latter part of the Test.
