3 reasons why England could win 3rd Test

3 reasons why England could win 3rd Test

England are all set to face India in the third Test of the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, beginning on Thursday, July 10, at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. The series is currently level at 1-1, and while England suffered a crushing 336-run defeat in the second Test at Edgbaston, they showed moments of brilliance, particularly with the bat.

Their dominant performance in the opening Test at Headingley also highlighted their ability to put the Indian attack under pressure. Here are three reasons why England could bounce back and win the third Test at Lord’s.

Jofra Archer’s return strengthens bowling attack

The potential return of Jofra Archer to England’s playing XI could significantly boost their bowling unit. Archer, known for his raw pace, has the ability to exploit even the slightest help from the pitch. England’s pace attack, featuring Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes, and Brydon Carse failed to make an impact in the first two Tests.

With Gus Atkinson also added to the squad, England are likely to field a more dynamic and potent bowling attack. Archer’s presence could provide the cutting edge they have been missing and apply consistent pressure on India’s formidable batting line-up.

Lord’s England fortress

England have historically dominated at Lord’s, a venue often referred to as the “Home of Cricket.” Out of the 19 Tests played between India and England at this ground, the hosts have emerged victorious in 12, showcasing a strong record.

Despite India’s recent form, this psychological advantage could come into play. The familiarity with the conditions, pitch behavior, and strong local support from the crowd makes Lord’s a favorable hunting ground for England. A return to their fortress might be just what they need to bounce back and gain the upper hand in the series.

In-form middle order

England’s middle-order has been a standout in the series so far. Jamie Smith, despite the loss at Edgbaston, impressed with his counter-attacking stroke play, while Harry Brook has been one of the most reliable batsmen for the hosts.

Brook has already accumulated over 200 runs in the first two Tests and has shown great temperament under pressure. With their top-order, especially Zak Crawley, struggling, the responsibility falls on the middle order to anchor the innings.
