3 reasons why CSK lost their game against PBKS in IPL 2025 clash

3 reasons why CSK lost their game against PBKS in IPL 2025 clash

The 2025 IPL season was the biggest fall of the 5 time winners Chennai Super Kings. The iconic franchise faced nightmares this year as their auction picks didn’t meet expectations, and they are now out of the season.

With only three matches remaining, we still don’t know what the team will become after the departure of MS Dhoni. Even during the match against Punjab Kings CSK failed across many departments, and the loss ended their campaign for this year.

Here are the 3 reasons why CSK lost their game against PBKS:

Middle order fumble

CSK were strong until the middle order came in in the final few overs. After 17 overs, they lost 6 wickets for 11 runs, and they lost momentum. After Curran got out, no one carried the team, and the rest of the batters fell cheaply, especially to Yuzvendra Chahal, who took a hat-trick.

The team lacked a plan, and all they wanted to do was hit the ball out of the ground. This started the collapse, and CSK were 20 runs short. In T20S, having a big total is very important in crucial matches because the bowlers should have some luxury to defend the total. Unfortunately, CSK were let down by their middle-order batters.

Lack of impactful bowlers

CSK has mostly relied on Pathirana, but this year hasn’t been great for him. The Sri Lankan is going for big runs, and his form is questionable. Even with a massive total on board, CSK is struggling to defend. This shows their bowling lineup is not capable of defending such totals.

Even their impact player, Anshul Kamboj, hasn’t been bowling at his best, and most of the CSK bowlers have gone for big runs. They clearly had no idea how to stop Shreyas Iyer and co. Even their bowlers didn’t make an impact with their opening spell. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya took the game away from CSK in the powerplay.

Team Selection

CSK management faced criticism from fans and experts for their squad selection this year. Their auction strategy backfired, as the T20 format has evolved while the Chennai Super Kings continue to rely on an outdated style of play.

Deepak Hooda was given another opportunity but failed to deliver once again. Meanwhile, several promising options remain on the bench, waiting for their chance. Fans are urging the CSK management to shift their mindset and invest in younger players to lead the team into the future.
