3 Players who can replace Rohit Sharma in Test

The Indian cricket team and its fans on Wednesday announced that Rohit Sharma had decided to retire from Test cricket. The 38-year-old decided to reveal his decision to retire from Test cricket via his Instagram. Rohit had made his Test debut in 2013 and played his final game in Melbourne, where he scored three in the first innings and nine in the second innings of the game.

In 2019, Rohit got the chance to open the batting for India in the Test format. The right-handed batter grabbed the chance with both hands and scored his Test best of 212 in the home series against South Africa. Some of the other notable knocks include 127 against England at the Oval, 161 against the same opposition in Chennai and his match-winning ton against Australia in Nagpur.

As Rohit Sharma steps away from the five-day format, Team India will be looking at a batter who can fill the role at the top of the order. India will be missing Rohit’s presence in the top order, where he formed a potent partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal and helped India get off to good starts.

Here is Rohit Sharma’s top 3 likely replacements

3- Sai Sudharsan

Sai Sudharsan

Left-handed batter Sai Sudharsan has been one of the breakout players over the last few years. Sudharsan has been a consistent scorer for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket and also has done well in the few chances he has got with the national side. 23-year-old, Sudharsan has been in great form in recent times where he has been scoring runs with ease for Gujarat Titans in the IPL. Penchant to score huge runs makes Sai Sudharsan an able choice to replace Rohit Sharma

2- Karun Nair

Karun Nair

Veteran batter Karun Nair can slot into the middle-order and let Shubman Gill or KL Rahul open the batting after Rohit’s retirement. Nair has been a tall run-getter in domestic cricket and is coming off a great season with the bat for Vidarbha. The 33-year-old has also played a couple of Test matches for India and showed his talents by scoring a triple ton against the English in 2016. Karun Nair is an able batter against the pacers as well as spinners and could be a key addition to the Indian middle-order.

1- Abhimanyu Easwaran

Abhimanyu Easwaran

Bengal batter Abhimanyu Easwaran has been a consistent run-scorer in the domestic circuit and has played over 100 matches for his side. The 29-year-old is a proper Test batter with loads of patience and hunger to score runs. Easwaran has been on the fringes of national selection for a long time and warmed the benches during the tour of Australia late last year. With his ability to grind out attacks and overall experience of playing the longest format, the right-handed batter could finally be given a chance to make his international debut.
