Gujarat Titans decimated Delhi Capitals bowlers on Sunday to win the encounter by ten wickets. This win helped the Shubman Gill-led side, to reach the playoffs as well as go top of the table. Delhi Capitals batted first and scored what looked like a safe total of 199 on the board with KL Rahul scored an  unbeaten century. In the second innings, it was Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan who stole the show with the bat for GT.

For the third time in IPL history, any team’s openers added 200 for the opening wicket. And this is also the second time that the same opening pair of batters have scored 200 runs for the first wicket on two occasions. The pair of Gill and Sudharsan is slowly becoming one of the most feared batting duos in IPL history after their recent exploits.

Here are the top three opening stands in IPL history:

3. Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill (205* vs Delhi Capitals – 2025)

Having been set a target of 200 to win the game by Delhi Capitals, it was GT openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan who did the damage. The duo got their team off to a flyer as Sudharsan showed early aggressive intent, hitting Nataraj for 20 runs. There was no stopping the duo as DC bowlers failed to stop the juggernaut. Shubman Gill saw his partner reach his century with a six off Kuldeep Yadav and also hit the winning runs. Sudharsan scored 108 not out, which was also his second century in his IPL career. Shubman Gill was not out on 93 and played the perfect second fiddle as GT won by ten wickets.

2. Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill (210 vs Chennai Super Kings – 2024)

In the 2024 season, Sudharsan and Gill added 210 runs for the opening wicket in a must win game against the champions Chennai Super Kings. Both the batters scored centuries as the stand of 210 runs came in just 17.2 overs. Sudharsan was out after scoring 103 which came off just 51 balls. The knock included five boundaries and seven sixes. Shubman Gill scored 104 (55 balls). Titans ended up with 231 on the board and beat CSK by 35 runs.

1. KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock (210* vs Kolkata Knight Riders – 2022)

KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock

The best opening stand in the history of the cash-rich league belongs to KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock, who used to play for Lucknow Super Giants in the 2022 season. LSG were taking on KKR, and the IPL debutants saw their team post a massive 210 for no loss from their 20 overs. KL Rahul batted well to score 51-ball 68 not out, but the star was Quinton de Kock, who was not out on 140. The left-handed batter hit 10 fours and an equal number of sixes as his knock came off 70 balls. In reply, KKR lost by just two runs despite Rinku Singh’s 15-ball 40 and 50 from Shreyas Iyer.
