Virat Kohli has officially announced his retirement from Test cricket before the 2025 India tour of England test series. It comes days after the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma announced his retirement. Virat Kohli is India’s greatest test captain as his records and achievements speak for themselves. After his arrival, India started to win overseas matches, and the team’s performance surged to an all-time high.

We do miss Kohli, the captain and his aggressive celebrations on the field. At the same time, fans should respect his decision as he took that keeping the 2027 ODI World Cup in mind. But did you know some other cricketing stars made their debut after Virat Kohli’s and have announced retirement before him?

Rohit Sharma

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma made his debut in tests on November 6, 2013. He is one of the biggest stars in cricket and has played 67 test matches in his career. He scored 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57.

He has been the backbone of the Indian top order for many, many years and has hit 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries. He played as a captain in 24 tests, winning 12 matches and losing 9 games. He announced his retirement on May 7, 2025, just days before Kohli’s announcement.

2. David Warner (AUS)

David Warner

Former Australian opener David Warner is simply one of the greatest test batters for Australia. He is very effective in scoring big hundreds, building massive opening partnerships and wearing out the bowlers. He made his test debut in December 2011 and had an outstanding test career, winning Border Border-Gavaskar trophy and the Ashes, the two biggest test series.

He got caught in the Sandpaper gate scandal against South Africa, and his name got tarnished. He was banned for one year and was not allowed to captain Australia again in the future. His form dipped after that, and he announced his retirement in 2024 after the Pakistan test series.

3. Quinton De Kock (RSA)

Quinton De Kock

The South African opener is one of the most stylish batters in the game. Quinny made his test debut in the year 2014 against the mighty Australians. But from the very first test, he had become one of the prolific batters for his country.

He played 54 matches for his country and scored 4,652 runs at an average of 38. But due to a heavy workload he announced his retirement from tests in 2021. The left-hand batter is now focusing only on T20 cricket.
