Andy Flower replaces Justin Langer as London Spirit head coach

Andy Flower replaces Justin Langer as London Spirit head coach

Andy Flower has been appointed as the head coach for London Spirit’s men’s side, replacing Justin Langer. The Spirit finished seventh out of eight in Langer’s first and only season in charge.

Flower leaves Trent Rockets after a five-year association with the franchise. For the unversed, MCC and the ‘Tech Titans’, which a consortium of high net-worth people including the chief executives of Google, Microsoft, YouTube, and Adobe, took over the operations of the Spirit earlier in the week. They plan on running the franchise as a joint-venture.

Meanwhile, Flower will reunite with Director of Cricket Mo Bobat at the Spirit. Notably, the duo took Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their maiden IPL title in 2025. Bobat expressed that he was excited along with Flower to help leverage each other’s acumen for the betterment of the Spirit.

“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to secure Andy’s services as our men’s head coach. Andy and I have enjoyed a strong working relationship in the past, and I’m looking forward to building something special with him at London Spirit as we enter this new and exciting phase for the franchise,” stated Bobat, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Flower also expressed his sentiments on getting another opportunity of working along with Bobat.

“It’s a real privilege to be part of such an iconic venue and organisation. I’m also thrilled to be working once again with Mo, and for the first time with both MCC and the Tech Titans,” Flower commented.

Speaking of how the Spirit have performed in the tournament overall, they were champions of the Women’s Hundred in 2024. However, they have consistently underperformed in the men’s division. The men’s side has won only 12 of their 38 completed matches. Five of those came in 2022 when Eoin Morgan had led them to the knockout phase. That was the only time they reached the knockouts.
