Adam Gilchrist names all-time IPL Champions XI

Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist has revealed his all-time Indian Premier League (IPL) Champions XI which comprises players who have been part of title winning teams over the years. The former wicketkeeper-batter, who has himself led Deccan Chargers to a title win in 2009, adhered to the IPL rules of including a maximum of four overseas players, and selected a balanced side with players from various campaigns.

Gilchrist selected David Warner as his first opener by highlighting his role in leading Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to their maiden IPL title in 2016. He was partnered at the top by Indian legendary opener Rohit Sharma, who captained Mumbai Indians (MI) to a record five IPL titles.


Middle Orders: Suresh Raina, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, MS Dhoni (C & WK)

Suresh Raina, for his vast experience with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), was included to bat at No.3. He is followed by Suryakumar Yadav, who played a key role in MI’s title win in 2020. The West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard also in the XI and has been a big plus for MI across multiple seasons. The middle order is anchored by the veteran MS Dhoni, who led CSK to five IPL titles and consistently took them into the playoffs.


All-rounders: Ravindra Jadeja & Sunil Narine

The left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja is picked in the XI for his all-around abilities and his contributions with both bat and ball. The West Indies spinner Sunil Narine was a key figure in Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) title wins and also featured in the XI.


Bowlers; Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga, Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Gilchrist mentioned Jasprit Bumrah to lead the bowling for his effectiveness during both powerplay and death overs. The Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga joins him, who was remembered for his lethal yorkers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar completes the XI, who played a vital role in SRH’s 2016 title win with his swing bowling in the tournament.
