Star India wicketkeeper-batter, Sanju Samson, has not been in the best form during the ongoing T20I series against England. In the three games played so far, his scores have constantly declined in magnitude – 26, 5, and 3 runs. An additional aspect on top of his lacklustre run has been Samson getting out similarly by English speedster, Jofra Archer.

Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator, Aakash Chopra, called out the recurring pattern of Samson’s dismissals in the current series. He also requested Samson’s faithful supporters to understand and recognize the situation instead of turning a blind eye to it. Notably, Archer has dismissed Samson thrice in the ongoing T20I series.

“The same (poor form) is true for Sanju. If Jofra dismisses Sanju thrice in three innings similarly, that’s not right. I want to request Sanju’s fan club, that if you love someone, be honest with yourself. Pray for him with your heart that he should improve, that this pattern shouldn’t be there,” Chopra said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.

“When we talked about it in the last video, people hurled so many abuses. An entire fan army gets triggered. If Sanju scores runs, we are the ones who praise him as well. However, when he gets out, it’s also our job to say that he got out similarly in three knocks. So, that has to be addressed,” he further added.

India are still ahead in T20I series against England

Interestingly, Sanju Samson has been rushed for pace on all three occasions. Archer’s deliveries have been too hot to handle for the top-order batter. It will be interesting to see how Samson adjusts his technique, going into the fourth and fifth T20Is in Pune and Mumbai, respectively.

As far as the series is concerned, Team India still have the upper hand in terms of the scoreline. Samson coming good and piling up runs, in the same way he did against Bangladesh and South Africa, will be crucial for the hosts going forward.
