Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ben Stokes engaged in a war of words during the first session of the second Test between India and England, which got underway on Wednesday, July 2, at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The two feisty cricketers weren’t in any mood to hold back as things heated up at the picturesque venue in the Magic City.

The incident took place in the 17th over of the Indian innings on Day 1 of the high-voltage clash. Stokes was the bowler, and he bowled four deliveries at Jaiswal, who scored five runs, including an authoritative boundary. Images have surfaced from the over as Stokes and Jaiswal can be seen giving the England Test captain a cold stare.

Jaiswal scored a belligerent century in the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, in the first innings. However, he dropped as many as four catches, including an important one of Ben Duckett when he was batting on 97 in the fourth innings. The England opener went on to amass 149 runs off 170 balls, helping the hosts chase down a 371-run target.

Jaiswal seems to have put the fielding lapses behind him as he played some exhilarating shots in the first session of the second Test after Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Mumbai batter took the attack to the England bowlers, not allowing them to settle by playing with an aggressive mindset. His proactiveness saw Josh Tongue, the highest wicket-taker in the first Test, conceding 42 runs off his six overs.

Jaiswal got to his half-century in just 59 balls in the 22nd over. He hit three consecutive boundaries off Tongue in that over, leaving the right-arm pacer and his captain searching for ways to stop the carnage.

After KL Rahul departed cheaply, Jaiswal and Karun Nair added an 80-run stand off 90 balls to put the tourists in a strong position. The latter was dismissed by a peach of a delivery from Brydon Carse on the stroke of the Lunch break. At the end of the first session, the Asian giants reached 98/2 in 25 overs, with Yashasvi batting on 62 off 69 balls, with skipper Shubman Gill (1*) at the other end.
