The discussions on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s domestic cricket participation is still going on among the fans and experts. This season saw the two India stalwarts play their first Ranji Trophy match after years. While Rohit featured in the match against Jammu & Kashmir where the Mumbai side suffered a disappointing defeat, Kohli featured in the game against the Railways.

There were high expectations from the two legends but they failed to make an impact on their return. There have been many experts who have criticised them which also included legendary all-rounder and former 1983 World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev. The 66-year-old has shared his views and expressed his disappointment with the two playing domestic cricket after a long time mentioning that it is also important for players to play domestic and stay within the system.

“If you are talking about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, playing Ranji Trophy after 12 years…how is that right? It does not look good at all. It’s not because they did not perform. Whether they score runs or not, you have to score runs in domestic cricket. So yes, certain strong measures have to be taken,” Kapil Dev said on YouTube Channel ‘Cricket Adda’.

“But my point is, had we won or had Rohit or Kohli scored runs, would they have played Ranji Trophy? Don’t look at the performances, make the system strong. Whether you score zero or lakhs of runs, play cricket by staying within the system,” Kapil added.

Speaking of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the last match the two played together was the second ODI against England in Cuttack where the India skipper went on to score a terrific century but unfortunately, Kohli failed on the day getting dismissed for just five runs off Adil Rashid’s delivery.
