West Indies’ head coach Daren Samm has stated that ‘justice must be served’ with respect to the allegations of sexual assault made against a cricketer from the nation. However, he felt that a methodical course of action should be ensured.

Guyana-based Kaieteur News had reported that several women approached them levelling allegations of grave offences by the cricketer, whose identity remains to be confirmed. The reports also indicated that the some claims dated back to 2023, for which no charges have been imposed.

Ahead of West Indies’ second Test against Australia in the ongoing three-match series, Sammy remarked that he had been in constant touch with his players.

“We’re all aware of what’s been going on in the media. I’m very close to my players. I’ve had conversations with them, making sure their mental space is good. One thing I could say is that we believe in justice. We are a community that believes justice must be served. However, there’s a process. We will continue to support in whatever way we can to make sure that due process and the right system is followed,” stated Sammy, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“As a cricketing board, for me as the head coach, I want justice for everyone. But, as of now, it’s all allegations. And we know the justice system. You’ve got to wait for things to process the right way,” he added while speaking on the same matter.

West Indies are currently involved in a three-match Test series against Australia. The Pat Cummins-led unit won the series opener by 159 runs. Travis Head was awarded the Player of the Match award for his half-centuries (59 and 61) in each of Australia’s innings.

The second game will be played at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada. The hosts would be aiming to better their performance and level the series. The match is scheduled to get underway on Thursday, July 3.
