The Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) will enter their 12th game in the MLC 2025 season in desperate need to start winning games. Last week, the LAKR suffered their worst loss to the Washington Freedom, losing by 113 runs and looking like they had some serious issues with their batting collapse, but this is now a new opportunity for LAKR to regroup and show there is talent in the Quicksilvers when they face the Seattle Orcas. The playoffs are still a mathematical possibility, so LAKR needs to put together the correct playing XI to make a big statement in this important game.
Openers

LAKR are likely to stick with Alex Hales and Sunil Narine as their opening combination despite their recent struggles. Yes, Hales scored a duck in the last game, but his experience and explosive batting at the top will be crucial for LAKR regardless. Hales is a destructive batsman, especially in the powerplay, and he only needs one big innings to get the momentum back in LAKR’s favor. Narine has struggled to score runs so far, but he can catch teams off guard during the powerplay with a couple of quick runs. Both batsmen will have to find their feet quickly if they are to avoid another poor start and set the tone for LAKR throughout the innings.
Middle Order

Saif Badar was the only real positive from LAKR’s previous outing, top-scoring with 32 runs. His attacking but patient knock showed he can anchor the innings and keep the scoreboard ticking. Specifically, Badar’s calmness will be vital to establishing stability in LAKR’s thin middle order. In concert with Badar will be Jason Holder, LAKR’s captain. Holder’s knock of 23 runs from 16 balls included three enormous sixes and demonstrated his ability to salvage an innings and accelerate when the situation dictated. If LAKR’s top order can’t produce again, they will both have to lead the rebuilding effort and ensure LAKR scores a respectable total.
All-Rounders

Even on an off day, Andre Russell holds the title as LAKR’s primary game-changer. He can change a game in a few overs with his hitting. His ability to turn the momentum in his team’s favour constantly causes anxiety for the opposition. He will be looking to re-establish himself and his explosive style of play, as he is known for. Jason Holder, captain and all-rounder, will again have a huge responsibility to carry LAKR forward. He took one wicket with the ball, but his contribution may benefit the team in runs scored, and as he guides the team during precarious situations.
Bowlers

Tanveer Sangha has been the most consistent spinner in LAKR. He took 2 for 38 in the last game. Sangha can break partnerships and bowl in the middle overs, and gives LAKR a bit of control. I am not saying that he can fully contain SEO’s power hitters, but his variations might help. Dry impressed with the ball, picking up 2 wickets for 33 runs. If Dry can snag a few timely wickets in the powerplay, LAKR should be home and hosed for the bowling innings. It would be great if both bowlers fire up and keep SEO in check, as the last thing LAKR needs is to let SEO off the leash.
As LAKR looks ahead to this must-win matchup against the Seattle Orcas, Hales, Russell, Holder, and Sangha will play a massive part in whether they find success. With the correct balance and sharper execution, LAKR still has a chance to turn their season around and make a late playoff charge.
