Predicting DD’s Playing XI for the Eliminator Match against TRI in TNPL 2025

Dindigul Dragons are preparing to take on Trichy Grand Cholas again in the Eliminator of TNPL 2025. After a closely fought game in their previous contest, DD are looking to bounce back with a victory to keep their hopes of title aspirations alive. With form, strategy, and pressure all coming into play, the final XI could make all the difference in this knockout contest.

Openers

Shivam Singh

Shivam Singh has shown a real amount of grit and temperament at the top of the order, so he will likely be retained. His 37 runs from 40 balls in the previous match was not a whirlwind innings, but it held the innings together in a time of peril, when wickets were falling in clusters. His skill in keeping the scoreboard ticking and holding the innings together adds real value to the team.

Vimal Khumar should partner with him at the top of the order: Khumar was the clear standout performer with the bat in the last outing. Khumar’s unbeaten 55 runs from only 37 balls was a mix of style and savvy, as he hit five boundaries and two sixes: with a strike rate near 150, I would say we have an ideal tempo for a powerplay aggressor that can also extend to the middle overs.

Middle Order

Hunny Saini

Hunny Saini should be considered at No. 4 or No.5 after his rapid 21 off 11 balls in the last game. While it was at the death overs, as it was more of an impact for DD’s total when he came in with no fear, and clearly showed a clean hitting ability. Saini’s finishing with a flourish will be vital in an Eliminator with the pressure ramping up.

Maan Bafna should also keep a place. While he only scored 14 runs, it was a brief cameo; he was fluent and hit three timely boundaries. Bafna plays a stabilising role and can change gears when needed. Bafna will be instrumental in leading the middle phase of the innings, starting from the 6th over if wickets have fallen.

All-Rounders

Ravichandran Ashwin

While Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t contribute heavily with the bat (2 off 4), he has tactical awareness and control with the ball that carries enormous value. His 1 for 24 off four overs was a critical part of the performance, especially when you’re talking about defending a mediocre score. Ashwin is still all brain, and he is excellent at obstructing run-chases and getting a key wicket.

Varun Chakravarthy is more of a specialist bowler but equally very much a bat, so has a tinge of all-rounder about him — his unbeaten 11 off 7. His spell of 1 for 38 was perhaps not his best, but he’s proven to be a match-winner who can run through line-ups on his day. But together with Ashwin, the two provide depth and variation throughout both innings.

Bowlers

Ravichandran Sasidharan

Ganeshan Periyaswamy was arguably the best bowler for us, taking 2 for 38, and taking key wickets at crucial stages of the innings, as he is a key weapon with his control at the death. Ravichandran Sasidharan also performed superbly, with figures of 2 for 23 in just three overs, breaking up partnerships and keeping the scoring down. Both will be crucial to restrict Trichy in the Eliminator.

Dindigul Dragons advance to the Eliminator with a blend of experience, composure, and explosive talent. It has everything from Vimal Khumar’s fireworks to Ashwin’s brilliance and all-around skills, as well as Periyaswamy’s clutch bowling highlights, but there is no denying that there is confidence and all-around strength in this XI ahead of their clash with Trichy in the Eliminator.
